Siddhavat shipra River, Ujjain. Edit
Detail InformationEdit
Siddhavat is a huge banyan tree that has flourished on the bank of River Shipra and holds immense religious importance, like the Akashyavat in Prayag and Gaya and the Panchavat of Nasik. A good number of pilgrims take a dip in River Shipra from the bathing ghat built at the place. The site was popular as the worshipping place of the followers of the Natha sect. It is said that the Mughal rulers cut off the banyan tree and they covered the entire area with iron sheets to restrict the growth of the tree. However, this sacred tree pierced the iron sheets and flourished significantly. There is a hamlet near Siddhavat, called Bhairogarh, which is renowned for its tie and dye painting for decades.
