Shri Vyankatesh temple located on Dharaskar Road in Itwari, about 3kms from Nagpur city center is dedicated to Lord Vyankatesh (the manifestation of Lord Balaji or Lord Vishnu). The construction of the temple was started in 1963 and completed in 1968 under the guidance of Swamiji Shri Dharacharyaji. The temple houses a beautiful back stone idol of God Vyankatesh, adorned with gold ornaments and this idol had been brought from South India. Just below the main idol, there placed three festival statues of Lord Vyankatesh made out of gold by the skilled artist from Chennai. The main entrance gate of Shri Vyankatesh temple is bedecked with beautiful carvings of numerous Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The annual temple festival is celebrated for 3 days in the month of February which involves the ceremony of God’s wedding, special Abhishekam, Kalash Pooja and ShobhaYatra. Besides this festival, Ramanuja Jayanti, Ram Navmi, Krishna Janmashtami, Waman Jayanti, Narsingh Jayanti, etc. are also celebrated at Vyankatesh temple with great prompt.

HistoryEdit

Established under the leadership and the guidance of Swamiji Shri Dharacharyaji the construction of this temple commenced on 9th April 1963 which attained completion in 1968 AD. The sanctum of the Shri Vyankatesh Temple enshrines the enticing effigy of Lord Vyankatesh made of black stone and adorned with gold ornaments. In addition to that, three festival statues of Lord Vyankatesh made out of gold are also placed just below the chief idol of the presiding deity. These smaller figurines are specially made by the proficient artists from Chennai whereas the main idol of Lord Vyankatesh is believed to have brought all the way from South India. The main entrance of the temple garlanded with ornately carved figures of numerous Hindu Gods and Goddesses is also bedecked with burnished silver foil. The daily offerings performed at the temple include the special worship, Abhishekam, Rajbhog, mantra recitation, and so on. Vyankatesh Temple of Nagpur is noted for its ostentatious festivals like the Ramanuja Jayanti, Ram Navmi, Krishna Janmashtami, Waman Jayanti, Narsingh Jayanti, etc. Apart from that, the temple celebrates its 3 days long annual festival in the month of February which involves the ceremony of God’s wedding, special Abhishekam, Kalash Pooja and ShobhaYatra. On the special occasions and festival days, the Vyankatesh Temple is thronged by over 10,000 devotees. The Vyankatesh Temple of Nagpur also undertakes some welfare programs such as running a Homeopathic Hospital and Sanskrit language classes.
