Sri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir (temple), situated on the Central Avenue Road (CA Road), just a few minutes walk from Nagpur railway station is dedicated to Lord Rama and Lord Shiva. Ram Mandir houses the images of Rama, Sita and Laxmana – three major characters of the Indian epic Ramayana. Built in 1923 by Late Shri Jamnadhar Poddar of the famous Poddar Family of Bisau (Rajasthan), Poddareshwar temple is described as the proud of Nagpur which is decorated with marble and sandstone carving works. People from all over India visits this temple on a belief that, those who visits this temple will absolutely gets the peace of mind. The main attraction of the temple is the Shobha Yatra (a grand parade) held every year on the occasion of Ramnavami. The Shobha Yatra is marked by a procession of a decorated chariot adorned with flowers and garlands with the idols of Rama, Sita and Laxmana. It is accompanied with the tableaus, depicting scenes from Ramayana and other Hindu granthas. Other added attraction of the procession is the ladies in colorful attires carrying mangal-kalash in the heads and the firework display. Large number of pilgrims gathered here to celebrate the Ramnavami festival with great delight. Within the temple premises, there is a Dharamshala (“Jamnadhar Poddar Dharamshala”) which provides free stay for the devotees. The temple and Dharmashala were administered by a board of trustees from the poddar family.

In the fond memory of his departed son, Shri Jamnadhar Poddar erected the Poddareshwar Ram Mandir of Nagpur in the year 1923. The term ‘Poddareshwar’ means the Lord of the Poddar Family. Constructed out of sleek and shiny marble and sandstone, this Ram Mandir is predominantly noted for its stunning exterior and its equally dazzling interior.
