Shiojiri is a city located in Nagano, Japan. Its name literally means “the end of salt”. Shiojiri is a minor transport hub for central Japan, as it sits at the junction of road and rail routes to Nagano, Nagoya, and Tokyo. The Ch Main Line, Ch Expressway, and Nagano Expressway all run through Shiojiri. Shiojiri is the location of the Hiraide ruins, one of the three largest ancient ruins in Japan. Artifacts from the Jmon period through the Heian period have been discovered there, as well as the remains of 47 ancient dwellings.
