Shekhawati, lies inside the triangle made by the and – it is the region that lies within this zone. It is a mini desert region of north Rajasthan. The region takes the name of its erstwhile ruler Rao Shekha and Shekhawati’s actual meaning is the “Garden of Shekha’.The region is replete with Palaces (Havelis) with beautiful wall paintings. The entire Shekhavati region has mesmerized millions of tourists and has been aptly dubbed as the ‘Open Art Gallery’ of Rajasthan. These buildings mostly from 18th and 19th centuries are spread over the entire region of Shekhavati. Shekhavati is rich of wealth of traditional arts, crafts and architecture.Shekhavati is also the home to various small fortresses, minor castles, mosques, wells (baolis) and also a deer sanctuary. Ideally the region should be traversed on a Horse Safari or a Camel Safari to enjoy the semi desert formation and these well preserved wall painted Havelis. Being the northern most portion of Rajasthan it is common to find the locals as mostly Rajasthanis and Marwaris. The populace is genial and open and any visitor is welcomed with open arms and a small tablet of opium (Rajasthani tradition).The climate varies to the extremes and it is advisable to carry the woolens if the travel is planned during Oct-Feb. There are many tourist spots within the region and stay at one of the Palace turned Hotels would be memorable. The palaces, most of them, have now been turned into luxurious hotels complete with all royal facilities and services. Best season to visit this beautiful place is between October to March, avoiding hot summer months.

By Air : Sanganer Airport located at Jaipur is nearly 150 km away from Shekhawati city. Taxi charges about Rs 2600 from Airport to the city. Jaipur airport is connected to metro cities Mumbai and Delhi. Foreign travelers can take connection flights from Delhi international airport, which is nearly 250 km away from Shekhawati. Taxi charges about Rs 5000 from Delhi to Shekhawati.

By Train : Jhunjhunu is the nearest railway station to Shekhawati. This railhead is on the Broad Gauge line between Mumbai and Delhi and is connected to all cities in India by trains. Tourist taxis are available from railway station to Shekhawati.

By BUS : Shekhawati is connected by regular bus services to other cities in and around. Many Rajasthan state public transport buses connecting Shekhawati with Jaipur (150 km). Private bus services are available from Shekhawati to Delhi (250 km), charging about Rs 800.

By Taxi : Taxis and Auto rickshaws are easily available for moving about in the city.
