Sharpsburg may be a city in Washington County, Maryland, u. s., around thirteen miles (21 km) south of Hagerstown. The population was 691 at the 2000 census. set east of the Potomac River, Sharpsburg attracted business within the early nineteenth century, particularly once the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal was extended to Sharpsburg in 1836. The city was incorporated in 1832.
