Scales Mound may be a village in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, u. S.. The population was 376 at the 2010 census, down from 401 at the 2000 census. The initial city of Scales Mound was situated at the bottom of Associate in Nursing erosional remnant like Charles Mound, regarding a mile southwest of the contemporary village.
In 1830 Samuel Scales purchased the initial village web site from John Sole and designed a building at the bottom of The Mound on Sucker path, a serious east-west passageway. The land that the contemporary village of Scales Mound is on was purchased from the U.S. Government in 1848 by a person named Dunning. Very little is understood regarding Dunning or the employment of the land till the decennary.
In 1851 the Illinois Central Railroad (ICRR) was established and it’d become a serious consider the settlement of a lot of of rural Illinois, together with Scales Mound. In September 1853, anticipating the arrival of the railroad, the village of Scales Mound was platted by Josiah Conlee and B.B. Provost. Throughout the summer of 1854 track crews from ICRR arranged out twenty miles (32 km) of track between Scales Mound and Apple watercourse and trains were running the road the day when completion. With the arrival of the railroad, Scales Mound’s initial building was created within the late fall 1854; a store designed by Sherman Eddy.
