Sátoraljaújhely is the former county town of the historical Zemplén County. Today Sátoraljaújhely is the most northern Hungarian town. The city centre has preserved the atmosphere of the characteristic Upper Hungarian small-towns. Sátoraljaújhely is rich in in monuments and historical buildings. The most valuables are: the Paulite and Piarist cloister and church, the Baroque style Town Hall (former County Hall), the Kossuth-statue, Kazinczy museum, Prison Museum, jewish cemetary, wine-cellars, the longest chairlift of Hungary.
