Sastamala is a town and municipality of Finland. It was created January 1, 2009, when the municipalities of Vammala, Aetsä and Mouhijärvi were consolidated into a single town. It is located in the province of Western Finland, and is part of the Pirkanmaa region. The town has a population of 24,486 (31 January 2011) and covers an area of 1,387.56 square kilometres (535.74 sq mi) of which 96.14 square kilometers (37.12 sq mi) is water. The population density is 18.96 inhabitants per square kilometre (49.1 /sq mi).
