Sapporo is the youngest and fifth largest city of the country, which is also the capital of Hokkaido, the four main islands of Japan. This region shows remarkable contrast in temperatures which drop below freezing in the months of December and January and transforms into a renowned ski destination of the country. This stunning winter sports destination offers activities including skiing and snowboarding and also hosts the annual snow festival held in February.
The Hokkaido Ainu Centre here provides information about the history and culture of the island’s original ancient natives, the Ainu people. There is a Beer Museum in the town, where visitors can take guided tours of one hour. The Historical Village is an amazing and interesting place to visit, which showcases Hokkaido life in their olden days. Mount Moiwa here is a popularly known as Sapporo’s ‘backyard ski resort’, which is an incredible winter skiing destination, that provides eleven diverse courses for amateur to advance skiers.
