Santa Catarina is a municipality located in the northwestern and the western parts of the island of Santiago in Sotavento in Cape Verde.The seat of the municipality is Assomada. The municipality was created in 1971.Santa Catarina are linked with a road linking Tarrafal and Praia (via a mountain road that passes through Assomada) and with a road to Santa Cruz. Farmlands are situated within the valley areas, the mountains cover the rest of the municipality especially the Pico da Antonia, the Serra da Malagueta and the western parts. Grasslands and bushes covers the rest of the area with a couple of forests, the forests are founded in higher elevations.The municipality along with the countryside has rare natural beauty and localities with particular interest, in clear contrast with the city of Assomada with its accentuated urban growth. The museum named Museu da Tabanka moved to Txan di Tanki.
