San Felipe del Progreso may be a city and municipality within the northwest of the State of North American country. It’s within the western a part of ths state, fifty nine kilometer from the city of Toluca and seventy two kilometer southwest of Atlacomulco. In colonial times, the village was supported as “San Felipe” or “San Felipe Ixtlahuaca”. Later it had been referred to as “San Felipe el Grande” and “San Felipe del Obraje”. Within the last half of the nineteenth century, it received its current name of “San Felipe del Progreso.”
There is indication of Mazahua presence within the space from the seventh century. However, they were perpetually enclosed by neighboring peoples. This space was conquered in 1379 by the P’urhépecha chiefs Acamapichtli and Tezozómoc. The realm came beneath Aztec rule once Axayácatl throughout his campaign to achieve Tlalchimaloyan, currently Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoacán in 1474 and remained beneath Tenochtitlan’s rule till the Spanish Conquest.
The Spanish took over the realm around 1552, career it “San Felipe el Grande”. By the time of the war of Independence, once the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla came to the city, it had been referred to as “San Felipe del Obraje”. On Gregorian calendar month one, 1826, San Felipe del Obraje was declared a municipality and on Gregorian calendar month thirteen, 1877, the village was renamed San Felipe del Progreso.
