San Andrés could be a municipality within the department of El Petén in Guatemala. The municipality is made by the city of San Andrés, placed on the north-western shore of Lake Petén Itzá.The municipality was created in 1962 and includes a territory eight,874 km sq, akin to twenty fifth of the department of El Petén. Within the Nineties, over ninety three (8,288 klick sq) of the municipalities territory was declared protected nature reserve by the central government.
