Salvo is associate degree unorganised community placed in Dare County, North geographical area, on Hatteras Island, a part of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Originally (with Rodanthe and Waves) a part of the settlement of Chicamacomico, Salvo was originally called Clarks or Clarksville. The residents of Salvo square measure ruled by the Dare County Board of Commissioners.
Salvo is a component of District four, in conjunction with Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras, Rodanthe and Waves. The name “Salvo” allegedly stems from the yankee warfare, throughout that a passing Union vessel noticed the settlement, that wasn’t marked on their maps. The officer ordered associate degree attack, and a sailor marked the positioning on his map with the word “Salvo.” The name was formally given to the city once it received a post workplace in 1901. The Salvo post workplace, one amongst the tiniest communication facilities within the u. S., was destroyed by associate degree malefactor in 1992. A replacement post workplace was created later within the decade.
