Detail InformationEdit

Rich in history, the Parish Church is dedicated to Saint Willibald and is a central focus for visitors to the village.
The village named “Sand Willbald” first appeared in historical documents in the year 1489.
When the original church was in such a dilapidated state that it had to be removed, a new church building was erected around 1500. As ever, affiliate churches had to support their parish church in times of trouble. In the year 1646, for example, the affiliated churches of St. Willibald and St. Jakob had to pay for the rebuilding of the parish church at Raab.
History records that in June 1732 the steeple of St. Willibald´s Church was struck by a lightning and thus the tower as well as the belfry with the cast of three bells were destroyed in the fire. And as a result the steeple had to be completely rebuilt with a belfry, three new bells, a watch and a copper gable cross added.
In the summer of 1981 the steeple was completely restored. The church dominates the landscape with its impressive tower, a sight that can be seen for miles around.
