Although smaller of the Saint Pierre & Miquelon Islands, Saint Pierre, home to almost 90 percent of the population is the administrative capital and the main settlement of the archipelago. Spread over a 25 square kilometer landscape, Saint Pierre is considerably smaller in size than the Miquelon Island. With regular scheduled flights and ferry services from Quebec, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Saint Pierre is the primary gateway for tourists wanting to explore this North American paradise made up of residents of Basque, Breton, Normand, and Acadian heritage.
Some of the most prominent Saint Pierre landmarks include the Cathedral which was rebuilt after a major fire in the early 20th century, the Pointe aux Canons Lighthouse located at the mouth of the harbor, and the Fronton Zazpiak Bat – a stadium for the traditional Basque sport of Pelota.
