Detail InformationEdit
The Parish Church of Rohr in scenic Krems Valley rises from the former Castle Hill.
As early as in the year 1330, the churches at Oberrohr and Niederrohr appeared in historical records as subsidiaries to the Parish of Kirchberg. Abbot Plazidus Buchauer had the original Romanesque-style castle Chapel of Unterrohr demolished in 1660 and the Parish Church you see today rebuilt on the site. The belfry dates back to the year 1674. The Rectory was erected in 1785 using stones from the Hehenberg Castle. Until 1950 it houses the local elementary school.
The high altar piece of Kremser Schmid depicts Mary holding the Child. The Church is dedicated to Saint Mary with the parish fair celebrated each year on August 15, the feast of the patron saint. The Church´s most precious possession is the 17th century ciborium. The side altar is flanked by a splendid Baroque statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven.
