Most populous commune within the French overseas department, Saint-Denis de la Reunion is located close to the mouth of River Saint Denis. Situated at the northernmost point of Reunion Island, Saint-Denis de la Reunion is home to over 158,000 residents as per 1999 census. Originally founded by Etienne Regnault in 1669, Saint-Denis de la Reunion has been serving as the administrative capital of this island Nation since 1738. Served by the Roland Garros Airport, which is the main airport of the island located at a distance of 7 kilometers from downtown, Saint-Denis de la Reunion is now being linked to the second city of Saint-Paul through the Reunion Tram Train services.
