Saint-Chamond is a commune in the Loire department in the Rhône-Alpes region in central France. It is situated 13 km east of the city of Saint-Étienne and approximately 45 km southwest of Lyon. Saint-Chamond is the largest town in the Vallee du Gier conurbation and is the third-largest population centre in the Loire department, after Saint-Étienne and Roanne. Quadruple Formula One World champion Alain Prost was raised in Lorette, a commune of the town.
