Saint Barthélemy officially the Territorial collectivity of Saint Barthélemy (French: Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Barthélemy), is a foreign collectivity of France. Usually abbreviated to Saint-Barth in French, or St. Barts (also, St. Barth’s) in English, the indigenous people called the island Ouanalao. The collectivity is one amongst four territories among the Leeward Islands within the northeastern Caribbean that comprise the French the Indies, in conjunction with Guadeloupe (200km southeast), island and St. Martin. St. Barts lies c. 35km southeast of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, and north of St Kitts. Puerto law is 240km to its west within the Lesser Antilles.
