Shirdi is most famous for the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple which has been constructed on the Samadhi of Shri Sai Baba. It is believed that Sai Baba arrived in the town of Shirdi when he was 16 years old and lived here until his death. It is also believed that Sai Baba took shelter in the Khandoba Temple, where a villager by the name of Mahalsapathi in the temple called him “Sai” or Saint Sai Baba.Sai Baba was born in 1838 and died in 1918. His real name, birthplace and date of birth are not known. Revered equally by both Hindus and Muslims, Sai Baba lived in a mosque and after he died was cremated in a temple. Sai Baba founded the philosophy of “Shraddha” meaning faith and “Saburi” meaning compassion and according to him both of these virtues were very important to reach the state of godliness. Apart from the Sai Baba temple another place near Shirdi which is very famous is the village of Shani Shingnapur which contains a temple dedicated to Lord Shani. The village is also famous for the fact that none of the houses, shops and even banks there have doors; there are door frames but no doors. The villagers never keep anything under lock and key as they believe that Lord Shani will punish anyone who tries to steal.

Shirdi is famous temple of Shri Sai Baba. It was established in 1922 to carry out the services of Shri Sai Baba.At age of 16 yrs Shri Saibaba arrived at the village of Shirdi in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra and remained their till his death. Saibaba found shelter in Khandoba temple, where a villager Mahalsapathi in the temple addressed him as Sai or Saint Sai baba.Shri Saibaba of Shirdi lived between 1838 and 1918, whose real name, birthplace and date of birth are not known. An Indian spiritual guru and a fakir, Shri Saibaba in Shirdi was regarded with great reverence by both Hindu and Muslim followers. Lord Sai lived in a mosque and after death his body was cremated in a temple.

Taxi : Shirdi is well connected by a road network and national Highway. The tourist can reach to Shirdi by taxi. The normal Indian taxi charges of Rupees 8 to 20 will be charged for each km.

BUS : Shirdi is well connected to all neighboring cities by Government owned buses. Private A/C and non A/C deluxe buses are also available from Nasik, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune to Shirdi. Bus fare is about Rs 200 to Rs 400 per head, depending upon the type of bus and seat selected.

Train : Trains services have also began operation from the different parts of the country for Shirdi. Located just 10 kms away from the temple, the newly built railway station of Shirdi now runs many trains from across the country like Delhi (Swarna Jayanthi), Mumbai (Sainagar Dr Exp), Chennai (Snsi Chennai Ex), Bangalore(Adi Sbc Express) . The trains also have air conditioned compartments and various classes to suit every pocket.

Air : Aurangabad is the nearest airport which is situated at a distance of about 110 km. This airport connects the city of Ahmednagar to several other cities of the country. Private taxis and buses are available from Aurangabad to Ahmednagar. Flights to Aurangabad can be taken in order to reach Ahmednagar.
