Sacile is a town and comune in the province of Pordenone, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of north-east Italy. It is known as the “Garden of the Serenissima” after the many palaces that were constructed along the river Livenza for the nobility of the Most Serene Republic of Venice. The historic centre is located on two islands of the river Livenza. It is not clear whether the islands are natural or man-made.
The area is home to a number of United States nationals who work at the nearby Aviano Air Base. Brick-making started in Ronche in the fourteenth century and continued until 1957. Today the main economic activity there is administration and services, although it is also home to the piano company of Fazioli.
The Sagra dei Osei, a 700+ year old festival dedicated to bird calling, is held in Sacile on the first Sunday after August 15.
