Detail InformationEdit

The Zakopiański style of architecture – a result of Stanisław Witkiewicz’s love affair with Zakopane – which beautifully merges into the scenery of the Tatra Mountains, was born in the late 19th century. Witkiewicz’s fascination with highland folklore and its traditional architecture resulted in the creation of the first national polish architectural style. The oldest house built between 1892 -1894 which represents this style of architecture is the “Koliba” villa but a particularly interesting and picturesque one is a later house “Dom pod Jedlami” with its high foundations, multiple eves and garrets as well as its sculpted decorations. The tiny chapel in Jaszczurόwka is another excellent example of the Zakopiański architectural style.
