With as much history as natural beauty, Rwanda is a relatively stable East African country dominated by mountains, savannah and lakes spread all around. This landlocked country surrounded by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo is extremely rich in flora and fauna. Rwanda tourism which is fast growing as the leading foreign exchange earner along with tea and coffee, it is now well over a decade since this tiny country has effectively overcome civil war and genocide.
Home to three excellent national parks which are the back-bone of tourism, Rwanda features a great diversity of large mammals found within these designated conservation areas. Renowned for the silverback mountain gorillas found here in large numbers alongside grand populations of hippos, unique birds and insects within the tropical Nyungwe Forests, Rwanda must learn to exploit these touristic potentials rather than depend upon subsistence agriculture to refurbish an ailing economy.
