Russwood Park was a arena in Memphis, Tennessee. It had been primarily used for baseball and was the house of the Memphis Chicks minors squad till the spring of 1960. The ballpark was originally in-built 1896, and was called Elm Wood Park. In 1915, team owner Russell E. Garner incorporated his name into the ballpark’s name.
Prior to its dramatic finish, the ballpark was best notable for being among the a lot of unambiguously formed ballfields within the country. It had been designed on a six-sided, asymmetrical block, with the deepest elements of left and right fields being considerably farther from bag than straightaway center. A number of its boundary streets were Apostle Street (east, right field), Madison Avenue (south, home plate), and Hospital Street (west, left field).
One of its known non-baseball events was a concert control by Memphis’ adoptive son Elvis Presley on legal holiday, 1956. The ultimate event at the recent ballpark was a pre-season practice game between the Chicago White Sox and also the Cleveland Indians on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1960.
The ballpark was a relic, made primarily of wood. That night once the sport, a fireplace of undetermined origin destroyed the ballpark.
