Detail InformationEdit

The Royal Encarnacion Monastery was founded in 1611 by Philip III of Spain and Margaret of Austria. The building was designed by architects Juan Gomez de Mora and Fray Alberto de la Madre de Dios.
It is home to important collections of painting and sculpture from the 17th and 18th centuries, with works by Lucas Jordan, Juan Van der Hammen, Vicente Carducho, Gregorio Fernandez and Pedro de Mena. Worthy of mention is the reliquary that houses an ensemble of 700 pieces in bronze, corral, ivory, and fine wood from Italy, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. The church was restored in 1761 by Ventura Rodriguez.
