Roja is an old fishing village. Seafaring traditions are alive here, but Roja can also offer a lot more for travellers and holiday makers! The fishermen’s ship “Lasis” brings tourists to Ruhnu Island in Estonia and fishermen’s boats drive them along the Roja River. It is possible to enjoy a meal cooked from fish you have caught yourself.
The exposition of the Roja Sea Fishery Museum tells about the work and life of sea fishermen and about fish processing, starting from the beginning of the 20 th century and up to the present, as well as about the contribution of K. Valdemārs in the development of the fishery, about small sea schools, shipbuilding at the turn of the 19 th and 20 th centuries and our sailors.
Here you can learn about mending fishing nets, weaving on looms, tying sailors’ knots and speaking their language. The museum has exhibition halls where thematic exhibitions are regularly changing – paintings, handicrafts, ceramics, flowers and photos.
