Hughes Hall, the previous parliamentarian M. Hughes Memorial Library, could be a notable building on the Old Dominion State University field in city, Virginia designed by Edward Durell Stone in 1959. Once the building was dedicated, it had been the city Division of the faculty of William & Blessed Virgin.In the book design in Virginia, printed by the Virginia depository Of Fine Arts, author William B. O’Neal writes that the building, utterly cased in a very star block screen, features a glass interior. Whereas it’s sensible energy saving edges, O’Neal says the blocks offer “a lovely unity and a repose not forever found in libraries nowadays.”The building was named for Virginia attorney parliamentarian M. Hughes, United Nations agency helped establish the city division of William & Blessed Virgin in 1930 at the side of J. A. C. Chandler, Joseph Healy and Albert Francis Charles Augustus Emmanuel Foreman. It had been dedicated with speech on “The Place of the faculty Library” by student Joseph Louis Barrow B. Wright, editor of the colonial diaries of Byrd of Westover.It sits at The Corner of Lionel Hampton street and forty ninth Street in city. Nowadays it holds several of ODU’s applied science school offices.
