Detail InformationEdit
RMS Queen mother may be a retired passenger ship that sailed primarily within the Atlantic Ocean Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (known as Cunard-White Star once the vessel entered service). Designed by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland, Queen mother at the side of her nominee, the RMS Queen Elizabeth, were designed as a part of Cunard’s planned two-ship weekly specific service between Southampton, Cherbourg, and ny town. The 2 ships were a British response to the superliners designed by German and French corporations within the late Twenties and early Thirties.
Queen mother was the flagship of the Cunard Line from could 1936 till October 1946 once she was replaced in this role by Queen Elizabeth. With the eruption of warfare II, she was reborn into a ship and ferried Allied troopers for the period of the war. Following the war, Queen mother was refitted for traveller service and at the side of Queen Elizabeth commenced 2|the 2}-ship transatlantic traveller service that the two ships were ab initio designed. The 2 ships dominated the transatlantic traveller transportation market till the dawn of the jet age within the late Fifties. By the mid-1960s Queen mother was aging and although still among the foremost fashionable transatlantic liners, was operational at a loss.
After many years of remittent profits for Cunard Line, Queen mother was formally retired from service in 1967. She left Southampton for the last time on thirty one October 1967 and sailed to the Port of urban center, California, us, wherever she remains for good moored. A lot of of the machinery together with 2 of the four steam turbines, 3 of the four propellers, and every one of the boilers were removed, and therefore the ship currently is a tourer attraction that includes restaurants, a museum, and hotel. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has accepted The Queen mother to be a part of the Historic Hotels of America.
