Requena is 68 kilometres from the city of Valencia. It was an important strategic enclave during the Middle Ages. Its old town has been declared Property of Cultural Interest. Located in the high part of town, the old quarter of Requena following the same style as Hispano-Muslim towns. A visit around La Villa runs through narrow streets with houses bearing coats-of-arms, charming squares and typical houses decorated with tiles and elaborate wrought ironwork.
The castle and keep were built by the Moors and, at present, house the Wine Harvest Festival Museum. The largest church in Requena, Santa María, and the church of El Salvador date to the 14th century and both have impressive Isabelline Gothic façades. It is home to examples of medieval architecture such as El Cid Palace and the San Nicolás Church.
