The Red Barn Observatory was established in 2006 and is devoted to follow-up observations and detections of asteroids, comets, and Near-Earth objects. Plans for the observatory began in 2002 and construction was completed in 2005. Throughout the month of August 2006, the observatory code H68 was appointed by the planetoid Center. Currently, the observatory is of the “roll-off” roof sort, however plans area unit within the works to put in Associate in Nursing 8-foot dome within the summer of 2007.
The observatory is found in Ty Ty, Georgia, USA – well far from any town lightweight pollution and is in a wonderful location to perform the follow-up observations of Near-Earth objects and doubtless risky Asteroids that area unit close to the locality of Earth on a daily basis. Additionally performed within the observatory is Associate in Nursing early evening sky survey (such as Palomar sky survey or NEAT – close to Earth Asteroid Tracking) to go looking for brand new comets and/or different unknown objects low on the horizon that may be simply unnoticed as a result of the position of the article.
