Ratnāgiri is a port city on the Arabian Sea coast in Ratnagiri District in the southwestern part of Maharashtra, India. The district is a part of Konkan. The Sahyadri mountains border Ratnagiri to the east. Heavy rainfall results in highly eroded landscape in the coastal region, but fertile alluvial valleys in the region produce abundant rice, coconuts, cashew nuts, and fruits, “Hāpus” (Alphonso) mangoes being one of the main fruits. Fishing is an important industry in Ratnagiri.This sprawling city is endowed with majestic hills, appealing seashore, cascading waterfalls, and glorious monuments. By Air : Ratnagiri Airport is connected to Mumbai and Pune by air. The airport is nearly 12 km away from city center. Taxi cabs fare is about Rs 250 from airport to city center. Mumbai is the major International airport nearby. It is located nearly 340 km away from Ratnagiri. Mumbai is well connected to all major airports in India and many cities abroad.
By Train : Ratnagiri railway station is linked to all cities in India through Mumbai terminal. Regular daily express trains ply between Ratnagiri and Mumbai (Jan Shatabdi Ex), Delhi (Mangala Ldweep) and Mangalore (Matsyagandha Ex).
By Bus : Regular bus services are available from many cities in Maharastra to Ratnagiri. State owned and private buses ply from Ratnagiri to many cities in and around. Evening trips of tourist luxury buses are available from Mumbai to Ratnagiri. The bus charge is about Rs 1,500.
By Taxi : There are many private taxi operators in Ratnagiri. They are usually available from taxi stands that are located across the town. Taxis can also be booked through the hotels. They charge around Rs 7 per km for non A/C taxis. Taxis are a good option to get around as they are comfortable and safe.
