Ramnagaram is a town located in the district of Ramnagara in the Indian state of Karnataka. The town of Ramnagaram is any tourist’s delight, as it had lush green surroundings and challenging rock formations that can interest any adventure buff. This is why a lot of adventure enthusiasts and adrenaline charged people visit the town of Ramnagaram every year, as scaling up these challenging rocks can be a very exciting experience indeed. Ramnagaram is a very popular tourist destination, and unlike the other tourist destinations, Ramnagaram’s popularity did not grow through word of mouth.The town of Ramnagaram has been featured in many movies and this has in turn contributed to the development of tourism within the town. The town is also called Closepet by some of the locals, as this was its name in the pre-Independence era.The town of Ramnagaram is mainly popular for its various granite hills which are very tall structures that can be scaled with some good effort. This is why Ramnagaram is so popular, as these peaks are not impossible to scale, and any tourist can try his or her hand at it. The famous granite climbs are Wanakkal Wall, Rainbow Wall and Anna Thamma that roughly translates to Black Diamond.

Ramanagar district is one of the 30 districts of Karnataka state .Ramanagaram shot into fame with the film Sholay in the 70s. But this small town just outside Bangalore has been the hub of silk-industry, rock climbers’ haven and home to several temples.About 4 kilometers from Ramanagaram is the famous Ramagiri hill; the shooting location of the famous film Sholay. This hill, which resembles Hanuman, is known by other names like Ramadevara-betta, Kaakasura-betta etc.The top of the hill has an ancient Pattabhi Rama temple. The climb is not very strenuous and there are nearly 450 steps to reach this lovely temple. The climb is quite pleasant and the view spectacular. You can see the panoramic view of Bangalore, the distant chugging of train on tracks as you start climbing towards the top.

By Train : The town of Ramnagaram has a railway station too. This is not a major railway station, but the trains that ply from Mysore to Bangalore or vice versa stop in this station for a few minutes. Train travel can cost you around Rs 110 from Bangalore. Train tickets need to be booked in advance, though. Buses and auto rickshaws will be available from the railway station or bus stand for inner city travel.
