Ramanathapuram District is an administrative district of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. on the northeast by Pudukkottai District, on the east by the Palk Strait, on the south by the Gulf of Mannar, on the west by Thoothukudi District, and on the northwest by Virudhunagar District. The district contains the Pamban Bridge, an east-west chain of low islands and shallow reefs that extend between India and the island nation of Sri Lanka, and separate the Palk Strait from the Gulf of Mannar. The Palk Strait is navigable only by shallow-draft vessels.

Ramanathapuram District is an administrative district of Tamil Nadu state in southern India.Tourists visit Ramnad to see the Raja Palace, still occupied by the former Sethupaty Raja and his family. Although no longer in power, the family contributes to the community by setting up schools and hospitals. Some westerners who teach in their school through the Projects Abroad organisation live in the palace during their stay. Philip Radlanski, a German citizen who visited in 2004 as an English teacher, made a documentary movie about the palace. Ramanathapuram is close to Rameswaram and Devipattinam, both important pilgrimage centres. Uchipuli, a main tourist place, which connects through airways Ariyamaan Beach is one among the popular entertainment beaches in Uchipuli. Puduvalasai, Panaikulam, Alagankulam beaches are also popular in Ramnad.

By Air : There are no regular flights from other major cities of the country to Ramanathapuram. Nearest airport is Madurai Airport.

By Train : There are regular train services from cities such as Madurai, Trichy, Chennai and Coimbatore to the city. Ramanathapuram is one of the main stations in the Ramanathapuram to Madurai railway line. For those are arriving by trains this is the best option. The railway station is located in the city and there are auto rickshaws and taxis that are available from outside the railway station to the different parts of the city.

By Bus : There are regular bus services from many places along the Coromandel Coast to Ramanathapuram. Government buses are available from most of the main cities in Tamil Nadu.
