Raichak is a town that is situated in the South 24 Parganas district of the state of West Bengal. The place is located along the banks of the River Hooghly. The Raichak Fort is the main tourist spot in the place. The fort has now been converted into a hotel and it has a stunning view of the river Hooghly. There are a few items of historical interest that can be seen in the fort and these include a grand piano, swords and numerous perfume bottles. It is also possible to take a ferry ride across the river to Kukhrahati or Gadiara. Boats and ferries are available from Raichak Jetty and Nurpur Jetty. Diamond Harbor is a popular tourist place that is located around 15 kilometers away. The place has a lighthouse, which is worth the visit. The ruins of an Old Portuguese Fort can also be seen in the area. You can also see a large statue of Buddha in the town and this might be worth visiting. The town of Raichak is also known for its cuisine and this is worth sampling. There are a few places along the river where you can witness sunsets as well.

Raichak is a small town in West Bengal about 50 km from Kolkata and located on the banks of Hooghly River. A beautiful 18th century fort is testimony to the history. Raichak is an ideal destination for weekend tourists. The town is surrounded by verdant trees and offers views of the river with rows of country boats sailing by. Nature and history, both ingredients of a perfect holiday, peacefully coexist at Raichak. This getaway is all about the breathtaking panorama of the river and a recreated British fort. There is not much else of tourist interest at Raichak. It is the right weekend destination for those looking for solitude and relaxation. Not even two hours from the city, this retreat by the river is almost an enlarged picture postcard.

By Air : The Kolkata Airport serves the town and if you are planning to travel by air, this is the most suitable option. Many airline operators offer services from cities such as Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Guwahati, New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Shillong, Goa, Jaipur, Pune, Dibrugarh and Lucknow. You can opt for a taxi from the airport to reach the town of Raichak. They charge around Rs 7 per kilometer for a small vehicle such as Tata Indica.
By Train : The Howrah station is situated at a distance of around 65 kilometers and it is well connected to places such as Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi. Tier three A/C tickets from Delhi cost around Rs 1500.
By Bus : The place is at a distance of just 50 km drive from Kolkata, along the river Hooghly. One can catch an air-conditioned luxury private bus plying from Kolkata to Raichak. You can pick the bus from Dharamtala Bus Terminus or Behala Bus Terminus in Kolkata.
