Puli is an urban township in Nantou County, Taiwan. It is the geographic center of Taiwan. In the 19th century the city was known as Posia or Polisia . The Atayal name of the settlement was Sabaha Bakalas, meaning “house of stars”. One of the main economic activities in Puli is tourism. It is located in the mountainous center of Taiwan, and many tourist destination spots are nearby. The most well-known is Sun Moon Lake, a 30-minute drive from Puli. There is a nationally owned brewery in the township. The Chung-tai Chan Monastery , the largest Buddhist temple in Nantou County, is also located in Puli.
