Pugwash (2006 population: 784) may be a Canadian village in Cumberland County, star Scotia. The village is home to fishing, salt mining, and small-scale producing and is located on the Northumberland Strait at the mouth of the Pugwash stream. Pugwash takes its name from the native Mi’kmaq word, “Pagweak,” which means “Deep Water”, in relevancy the Pugwash stream. Pugwash sits atop a salt deposit activity 457.2 m thick and is home to the most important underground salt mine in Atlantic North American nation, with shipments from its port, further as by rail from a facility at Oxford Junction.
