Since the expellees that came to Mauerkirchen were almost exclusively protestants, they erected their own church in the very center of their new settlement.
Designed by the architect and later mayor of Mauerkirchen, Hans Schihan (a protestant himself), the church was consecrated in 1960 after a construction period of no more than a year.
