“The Praça Raul Soares is a major square of Belo Horizonte. Built in French style, it is situated at the confluence of four major avenues: Amazonas, Augusto de Lima, Bias Fortes and Olegário Maciel. The square is named in honor of the former president of Minas Gerais, Raul Soares de Moura.
In 2008, the square underwent revitalization reforms that were passed through the municipal participatory budget program and came to cost 2 million and 600 thousand dollars. The flowerbeds and sidewalks were restored, drinking fountains and fountain.
The project aimed to give more security and accessibility to the flow of pedestrians. For this, there were interventions in landscaping, lighting, sidewalks, and clean-up vision. Compromised trees were replaced and lampposts were resized, bunkers and bins, and advertisements were removed and adjusted in accordance with the Code of Postures. The walks were suitable pavement for easy access, especially for the disabled and the visually impaired. Praça Raul Soares is listed by IEPHA and therefore can not be mischaracterized, just restored.”
