Poonch is a town in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and it is located in the Poonch district. It is an old city and there are records about the place dating back to the 7th century. The Poonch Valley is distinct from the Kashmir Valley and there are two roads that connect the two valleys. The city is surrounded by hills and it is one of the most scenic places in the region. Poonch has been in existence since the time of Alexander the Great and there are few places of interest in the valley. One of the main attractions of the place is the Noori Dham, which is a waterfall of immense beauty. It is located around 45 km from the town and it is a popular tourist attraction. Remnants of a mirror are located near the waterfall and this was supposedly used by Empress Nur Jahan. Some of the other places in the place are the Poonch Fort, Girgan Dhok, Loran, Mandi, Surankote, Nandi Sool, Dehra Gali and Behramgala. The Poonch Fort is around 350 years old and one can see different cultural influences through the architecture used in this place. The central part of the building has a Sikh type of architecture, whereas other parts have a Mughal Style of architecture.

Poonch is a remote district in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, which is also known as ‘Mini Kashmir’. Located amidst beautiful nature, the district of Poonch is enclosed by the Actual Line of Control (ALC) from three sides. There are several tourist attractions in this district including, historical monuments and religious centres along with beautiful waterfalls, valleys, peaks, and lakes. Poonch Fort is one of the popular historical buildings located in the district. Raja Rustam Singh, the Emperor of Poonch got it constructed in 1713 and its style of architecture is similar to that of Mughals. Noori Chamb is another popular tourist spot, which is located 45 km away from Poonch. It is said that the Mughal King Jahangir got so impressed with the beauty of this place that he named it after his lovely wife Noor Jahan. There is a beautiful waterfall here where queen used to bath.

By Air : The closest airport is located at Jammu, which is around 250 km from the town. The Jammu airport is an ideal transit point for international travelers are connecting flights are available from Delhi. The airport is connected to places such as Srinagar, Goa, Delhi, Leh, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Jaipur. Upon arrival the best option is to hire a taxi from here to the town of Pooch. Taxis are available frequently and they charge around Rs 7 per km for the trip.
By Train : The nearest railway station is also located at Jammu and there are trains from different parts of the country to the station. It is connected to places such as Chennai, Delhi and Howrah. Tickets from Delhi to Jammu cost around Rs 260 for a second class ticket. Trains are the preferred option for many travelers and are always in demand.
By Bus : Buses are available from Jammu to Poonch and tickets cost between Rs 100 and Rs 300 depending on the type of transport. Buses are a cheaper option; however they are not always comfortable.
