Currently, Pļaviņas HPP is the largest power plant on the Daugava, and through its dam wall, both banks of the river are connected by the only tunnel in Latvia. The history of the town of Aizkraukle starts with the construction of Pļaviņas HPP: in 1967, the then village of Stučka, where the builders of the power plant lived, was granted a town status.
Pļaviņas HPP is currently the largest HPP on the Daugava, and through its dam wall, both banks of the river are connected by the only tunnel in Latvia. Pļaviņas HPP offerd guided tours including the HPP viewing area, lower pool viewing area, model of the HPP in the lobby and No 1 transformer, machine hall, turbine No2, upper pool viewing area.
