Pisco has then been a revolutionary base for José de San Martín. Peering down the Pisco Plaza de Armas main square, his statue is a respected tribute to the liberator. Pisco Plaza de Armas is a small town social hangout where people generally gather, buy small sweets made of pecans (tejas) and an assorted variety of dry fruits. Some of the prominent buildings surrounding this main Pisco square include the San Martín’s headquarters Club Social Pisco (San Martín 132) mansion he lived in, the Municipal Palace and the heavy Baroque Iglesia de la Compañía featuring an exquisite carved pulpit and gold-leaf altarpiece.
