Pioneer sq. Could be a neighborhood within the southwest corner of Downtown port of entry, Washington, USA. It had been once the center of the city: Seattle’s founders settled there in 1852, following a short six-month settlement at Alki purpose on the way aspect of Elliott Bay. The first structures within the neighborhood were largely wood, and nearly all burned within the nice port of entry fireplace of 1889. By the top of 1890, dozens of brick and stone buildings had been erected in their stead; to the present day, the bailiwick character of the neighborhood derives from these late nineteenth century buildings, largely samples of Richardsonian type of architecture.
The neighborhood takes its name from alittle triangular plaza close to the corner of initial Avenue and Yesler manner, originally called Pioneer Place. The Pioneer Square-Skid Road Historic District, a historic district together with that plaza and several other encompassing blocks, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
