Phulbani is a town that is situated in the Kandhamal district of the state of Orissa. The region is known for its natural beauty and there are a few tourist places that one can visit in the area and these include waterfalls and hills. The town is also located near the Salunki River. The region used to be surrounded with dense forests and these are inhabited by a peaceful tribal population. The place is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna as well. Belghar is a place that is ideal for viewing wildlife and one can many elephants roaming in the region. This is situated around 150 kilometers from the town of Phulbani. The main attraction in the town itself is the Lord Jagarnath Temple, this is a must see place while travelling to the region. One can also visit the Mandikunda Chaka. A dam has been built over the River Salunki and this is a popular tourist attraction in the area as well. The Pilasalunki Dam is popular among families for picnics and makes for an interesting day trip. It might be worth visiting the horticultural farm that is present in the town and various researches are being carried out in the place.

By Air : The nearest airport is situated at the city of Bhubaneswar and for those who intend to travel by air, this is the best option. The airport is connected to several cities across the country and these include Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Raipur. Many airlines are offering services and hence the connectivity is frequent. From the airport, one can use a taxi to reach the town and they charge around Rs 7 per kilometer.

By Train : The town does not possess a railway station of its own and the best option is the Berhampur station that is situated around 155 kilometers away from the place. The station receives trains from cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, Howrah and Guwahati. Tier three A/C tickets from Chennai to Berhampur cost Rs 980.

By Bus : Buses connect the town to the rest of the state and this is a feasible option. Daily buses are available from Bhubaneswar and Berhampur to the town. You can expect these to be crowded as they are used by the locals for inter city transport.
