Detail InformationEdit

Recognized as the birthplace of the early Khmer empire, Phnom Kulen Hill is located at a distance of 48 kilometers from the city of Siem Reap. The largest reclining statue of Buddha in the World is situated on the Phnom Kulen hilltop. King Jayavarma II had officially announced its independence from Java in 802 A.D., which eventually resulted in the birth of Modern Cambodia. It is also considered as one of the sacred Buddhist places and a famous pilgrimage center. Offering magnificent views of the forested plateau, Phnom Kulen scenery can be enjoyed from several high points.
It generally takes ninety minutes to scale Phnom Kulen hilltop. However, it is advisable to restrict oneself to the common used paths while visiting this tourist attraction because several landmine problems still occur within this region. Located at a 45 minutes driving distance from Phnom Kulen Hill, there is a small river which is famous for having various carved lingas on its bed. There is also a waterfall and an old temple of the Angkor era located nearby.
