It is situated close to the Burma border, on the curve of the river Kolodyne, in the Chhimtuipui district. It is famous for Orchids and rhododendrons. The nearest village is Sangau. This is a very sacred peak, considered to be the abode of the Gods. Once a year, ritual sacrifices are offered here. Commanding a majestic view over the hills and the valleys, this peak presents the most enchanting scenic beauty in Mizoram. There is a semi-circular beautiful cliff in the western side called Thlazuang Khamm which has a sharp and deep fall. This is the habitat of the wild mountain goats. This cliff was believed to be haunted by spirits. Apart from the cliff and the high peak, Phawngpui has many reasons to allure tourists. There is an area of around 200 hectares. The area is enclosed with dense bamboo forests and other flora species of the region. This beautiful place always remains crowded with butterflies that add charm to the ambience. The Blue Mountain of Mizoram or Phawngpui is held in high esteem in the state as it is believed to be the abode of the Gods. The highest mountain peak in the state of Mizoram, with a height of 2157 meters, the peak stands near the Myanmar border in Chhimtuipui District. Well-known for orchids and rhododendrons, Phawngpui peak provides a stunning view of the trees and colourful flowers growing in the vicinity. Giving the most enthralling view of Mizoram, the mountain contains a semi-circular beautiful cliff in its western side known as Thlazuang Khàm, which possesses a pointed and a deep fall. On the peak, there exists a level ground of about 2 square kilometres which is bordered by tangled bamboo groves and other appealing vegetations. Further, the Farpak area in Phawngpui is known for thronging with lush green flora and fauna. Sighting birds like Peregrine Falcon, Sunbirds, Blyth’s Tragopan, Golden Throated Barbet, Mrs Hume’s Pheasants, Hornbill, amongst others is a common activity here. Clouded Leopard is also seen in the area very often. Since off late instances of wild orchids been stolen from Phawngpui are on a rise, efforts are now been taken to protect and conserve the area.
