Detail InformationEdit
A church was first documented in Mayrhofen in the 14th century and most likely there had been a small church even before. After some modifications, the church was consecrated in 1511. But between 1580 and 1590 the church was destroyed by a fire as it had already happened at the end of the 14th century. In 1674 an own curacy was founded. In 1740 the church was enlarged (inauguration in 1765). The former stucco works, ceiling paintings, high altar and pulpit originate from this period. In 1858 Mayrhofen became an own parish (deanery Zell am Ziller). In 1938/39 the church was renovated.
In the 60ies the church had become too small for the increasing village community. According to the design of architect Prof. Holzmeister the church was constructed by local masters and inaugurated on December 14, 1969 by Archbishop Dr Macheiner. Since 1971 the large picture “Rose of Jericho” by Max Weiler has decorated the ceiling. According to the legend this rose blossoms only during Christmas night.
