Pemayangtse is a place that is situated near the town of Pelling and it is well renowned for the monastery that is located here. The Pemayangtse Monastery is an ideal to place to get away from the life of city. The monastery is one of the oldest in the state and it is an important place for many people in the region. The monastery was built in 1705 and still remains in excellent condition. The monastery has been built at an altitude of over 2000 meters and it has a backdrop of snow capped mountains and valleys. The three storied structure is studded with many frescoes and there are numerous paintings throughout the monastery. There are several statues that can be seen here as well and the signature ones are of Padmasambahva and his consorts.The main hall of prayer in the temple is a large room that has colorfully painted windows and doors. There are a few statues that are present here as well. The monastery has a well kept garden and the place has a soothing effect. You can also visit the Rabdantse ruins, which are located nearby. The Cham Dance festival is celebrated every year in the month of February.
