Pattadakkal is a town that is located in the Bagalkot District in the State of Karnataka. Pattadakkal is located around 10 from the town of Aihole and around 22 km from the town of Badami. The town is home to many world heritage sites and they are known for their ancient architecture. Pattadakkal is home to a few temples that were built during the 8th century. The temples are an example of the fusion architecture of those times. The temples were built in a style that compasses both the Dravidian style of architecture as well as the Nagara style which was preferred in the Northern States. The temples have been a UESCO heritage site since 1987. The main attractions in the town of Pattadakkal are the ten temples. They were built during the Chalukya Dynasty in the 8th century. There is a Jain temple that is located near the others and this was also built during this time. 4 of 10 temples were built in the Nagara style and 4 were built using the Dravidian style. The remaining 2 temples were built using a mixture of both the styles. Pattadakkal is a perfect place to see different styles of architecture being combined.

Pattadakal is a small town that is renowned for its ancient temples. Located near Badami and Aihole, Pattadakal Temple can be easily reached by regular buses or private taxis from the major towns and cities of Karnataka. The Temples of Pattadakal, exhibhit the zenith of ‘Vesara’ style of Hindu temple architecture. Pattadakal had once been the rich capital of the Chalukyas. During 7th – 8th century, Pattadakal Temples were got constructed by the Chalukya rulers. Portraying the rare specimen, the temples depict a wonderful blend of Dravidian (South-Indian) and Nagara (North-Indian) architectural styles. The phrase ‘beauty in ruins’ goes exactly with the town of Pattadakal. The beautiful settlement appears majestic with its series of nine temples. The temples of Pattadakal receive myriad number of tourists, who come from the distant lands, round the year.

By Train : The closest railway station is located at Badami which is located around 20 km from the town. There are autos that ply from the railway station to the town. They are a cheap and quick way to reach the town. They charge around Rs 300 for the trip. There are train services from Mysore and other parts of the State to Badami.

By Bus : Government buses are available from Bangalore to Pattadakkal. These depart frequently and they are cheap. They cost around Rs 300 for the trip. Government buses are usually cramped and may not be the best option for long distance journeys.
