Paramekavu Bhagavathy Temple is a revered shrine in the city of Thissur. This temple is quite popular is dates back to the 10th century. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga in the form of Bhagavathy, who is the prime deity of this magnificent temple. The significance of this scared spot can be estimated from the fact that it finds mention in many historical texts and folk arts. In fact, Paramekavu Bhagavathy Temple is one of the largest Bhagavathy temples in Kerala. Considering all these facts, it attracts number of devotees all the year around. One of the major atractions here is the festival of Thrissur pooram. The temple plays a key role during this popular festival. The festival procession starts from two temples that stand face to face in the town. One of the procession starts from Paramekkavu. It is said that Goddess Paramekkavu Bhagavathy went to Vadakkunatha temple to visit Lord Shiva.

Paramekkavu Bhagavathi Temple is one of the largest Bagavathi temples in Kerala. Paramekkavu Bagavathitemple is located in Thrissur in Kerala South India and is considered to be over a 1000 years old. One of the renowned temples in middle Kerala. One of the two participating temples in Thrissur Pooram. The well known Thrissur pooram is a “festival rivalry” between Pramekkavu Temple and Thiruvambady Temple. The temples of Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi are friendly rivals in the pooram with both sides vying each other to present the best, whether it be illumination or Kudamattam, the competitive display of colourful parasols atop caparisoned elephants. This video presents the captivating illumination of Paramekkavu temple. The ceremonial procession with fifteen caparisoned elephants from Paramekkavu temple to the Vadakkumnathan temple premises, where the festival is held, is a captivating sight. Elephant pageantry and traditional percussion orchestras like Panchavadyam and Pandimelam are other attractions of this grand festival at Thrissur (Trichur), Kerala, India.
